Mr. Plansky enters his third year as athletic director at Marblehead High School. During his time as athletic director Mr. Plansky instituted social contracts for all teams. Team members are responsible for creating policies for the upcoming season and penalties when those policies are broken. With the guidance of the head coach these contracts are followed throughout the season. Plansky also created a Student-Athlete Handbook to help all athletes understand the expectations that go along with the privilege of participating in athletics. Before becoming athletic director at Marblehead High School, Michael Plansky spent 14 years coaching college basketball. This has allowed him to help all Marblehead student-athletes with their college search process. Having coached at every level in college has allowed Mr. Plansky to pass on his insight into the college admissions process as it pertains to athletes. Most recently Plansky coached at Endicott College.

Coming off the most successful season in school history in 2003-2004, Endicott followed up with another great season in 2004-05. Endicott finished 22-6, repeated as regular season conference champion for the third consecutive year and won the Conference tournament for the second year in a row. Endicott hosted its first NCAA game in the program's history in 2003-04. This gave Coach Plansky the distinction of participating in the NCAA tournament at every level in basketball: Division I (University of Iowa, 1997), Division II (St. Michael's College, 1999) and the last two years at Endicott. Endicott was ranked regionally again, 6th in New England after a 5th place ranking in 2003-04. There are over 70 basketball teams competing in New England. Coach Plansky was named CCC Coach of the Year for the third time. Coach Plansky's record improved to 116-49 overall, 70-11 in conference play. His 2003-04 team set school records for wins in a season (23) and consecutive wins (14). The 23-5 record is the best in school history.

Before arriving at Endicott, Plansky was the head basketball coach at Salve Regina University. During Plansky's three-year stint he compiled a 52-28 record which included the school's most successful season in 1999-2000 at 18-7. In 2001-2002 Salve Regina tied the school record for wins with 20. In 1999-2000 Salve Regina was named the most improved team in New England by the New England Association of Basketball Coaches and Plansky was named the CCC Coach of the Year.

Before taking over at Salve Regina University Plansky served as an assistant coach at St. Michael's College, University of Iowa and Brandeis University. During that time those teams participated in 5 post-season tournaments including two NCAA tournament appearances and one league title. While at the University of Iowa, Plansky completed his masters in Sport Psychology. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fairfield University where he was a guard on the basketball team for four years.
