THE MARBLEHEAD HIGH SCHOOL TIMELINE FOR SOPHOMORES
10TH GRADE
Continue to focus on strong study habits, obtaining
good grades, participating in extra - curricular activites including school
based groups and/or sports, and take a set of courses that are challenging
for you in order to be well prepared for college. In addition, continue
to identify areas that are interesting to you, and explore potential career
fields. Also, remember that all your grades are now a part of your permanent
record.
SEPTEMBER
- Check your schedule to make all of your academic
classes, electives and Wellness courses are scheduled.
- Talk to your parents about taking the PSAT (the practice test for the SAT). The date is Saturday, October 18, 2003. Remember that it's
a junior test, so you are being compared to mostly juniors.
OCTOBER
- Guidance Counselors will visit grade 10 English
classes to distribute PSAT information and registration materials.
- Students should take the practice PSAT test
at home under simulated conditions. Guidance
Counselors gave students a practice test and encouraged them to take it.
DECEMBER
- Discuss results of the PSAT test with your
guidance counselor and with your parents.
- If need be, examine changes in study habits
and read, read, read :)
JANUARY - MARCH
- Continue to focus on your classes and activities.
- Sophomore Seminars and Career Testing in Wellness classes.
APRIL
- Register for June 5 SAT II Subject Tests
for those classes you have taken this year that you excel in.
- Register for Advanced Placement exams for
those classes you have taken this year.
MAY
- Take the Advanced Placement exams if you
are eligible.
- MCAS Testing
JUNE
- You may wish to take SAT II Subject Tests
if there is a subject you are particularly strong in.
- Begin to plan your summer. Perhaps you will
take a vacation, work, or volunteer your time. Colleges will be interested
in how you spent this time.
