Recovering web pages and graphics from your web browser cache

For additional assistance please send an email to me. I am working on documentation for Apple computers, but it is very time consuming with all the different web browsers, operating systems, and versions.

Please choose the browser you use to surf the web on a regular basis:

Internet Explorer (Windows 2000, XP)
Netscape Navigator 4.x (Windows 2000, XP)
Netscape Navigator 7.x (Windows 2000, XP)

Quick and Simple Apple Directions


Internet Explorer (Windows 2000, XP)

  1. Open MY COMPUTER
  2. Open Local Drive (C:)
  3. Click on TOOLS and drag down to FOLDER OPTIONS
  4. Click on the VIEW tab
  5. Click on SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
  6. Click on the LIKE CURRENT FOLDER button
  7. Click on OK
  8. Open DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS
  9. Open the folder with the name that you login to your computer with
  10. Open Local Settings (this is normally a hidden folder)
  11. Open Temporary Internet Files

You will now be in the folder that holds copies of all of the web pages and graphics that you visit on a regular basis. You want to now start looking at each web page until you find your missing page. Once you find your missing page save it with a new name and then you can publish it to your web site normally.

Netscape Navigator 4.x (Windows 2000, XP)

  1. Open MY COMPUTER
  2. Open Local Drive (C:)
  3. Open Program Files
  4. Open Netscape
  5. Open Users
  6. Open the folder with your username
  7. Open the folder named CACHE

You will now be in the folder that holds copies of all of the web pages and graphics that you visit on a regular basis. You want to now start looking at each web page until you find your missing page. Once you find your missing page save it with a new name and then you can publish it to your web site normally.

Netscape Navigator 7.x (Windows 2000, XP)

  1. Open MY COMPUTER
  2. Open Local Drive (C:)
  3. Click on TOOLS and drag down to FOLDER OPTIONS

Quick and Simple Apple Directions

If you are editing and browsing pages with Netscape on an Apple for most operating systems you can follow these directions

  1. Open your hard drive
  2. Open system folder
  3. Open the preferences folder
  4. Open the Netscape folder

You will now be looking at the folder that holds copies of all of the web pages and graphics that you visit on a regular basis. You want to now start looking at each web page until you find your missing page. Once you find your missing page save it with a new name and then you can publish it to your web site normally.
